Touch of Plum – Iris, 2.5in x 3.5in, watercolor on board, ©Rebecca Latham
This is a small painting of irises that grow in our neighborhood. I love the contrast in colors and the soft light.
This painting, as well as a number of my other recent works, will be on display for Treasures in Miniature – A Small Format Art Show put on by the Mercer Island Visual Arts League , April 5 – 28, 2012. Opening Reception Thursday April 5, 2012 5:30 – 8 pm at the MIVAL Gallery, Mercer Island, WA. I hope if you are near the Seattle area, that you will be able to stop in and see the show!

I am pleased to post that my artwork (and my family’s artwork) will soon be represented by Vertical Peaks Fine Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming – http://www.verticalpeaksfineart.com
The gallery is spacious and only a few doors down from our current representation, Raindance Gallery – the owners of which are also owners of Vertical Peaks. I am very pleased to continue to work with them as well as their partner in the new gallery.. all have been wonderful to work with.
Also, Giclee reproductions of paintings will still be available in Jackson Hole through Raindance Indian Arts just off the square - http://raindanceindianarts.com

Barred Owl (sepia stage, work in progress), 7in x 9in, watercolor on board, ©Rebecca Latham
This is a new painting in progress of a barred owl. I love the softness of this species that can be painted in the layers of translucent feathers. In this work, I am focusing on tones of gray to communicate that aspect.

Looking Back – Barn Owl, 4.75in x 3.25in, watercolor on board, ©Rebecca Latham
This is the final scan of the Barn Owl piece I was working on recently. I enjoy painting this species of owl.. their layers of white feathers always an effort, but so beautiful. I was pleased with how the dark backdrop and color rich glazes of sienna and gold brought strength to this piece.

Peaches & Creme – Iris, 4.75in x 4.625in, watercolor on board, ©Rebecca Latham
This is the final scan for the recent Iris painting I’ve been working on. It was a bit of a challenge getting the opalescent glow of sunlight through the petals, but I’m pleased with the result.
Painting this piece has made me a little more eager to see the new flowers unfold this spring…
