A healthy distance into November already, and Thanksgiving just around the corner. I hope you’ve been able to enjoy the fall color, for those who still have leaves on their trees, and perhaps a walk in the crisp autumn air for those who don’t.
I’ve been in my studio lately developing several small commissioned paintings – some lovely subjects, too. I’ve also been chipping away at a collection of new small-ish sized paintings of wildlife at the request of a new gallery out East. The great horned owl from my last post is one of the works for the project. I’m very enthused about the venture and plan to be posting more about it soon.
In addition to those, seven new paintings were completed and shipped to their invitational exhibitions for the upcoming Holiday season as well. I hope to post those images shortly and information about attending their respective exhibits that will be opening in Montana, Texas, and Massachusetts if you happen to be in the area to drop in the galleries. More to come..

Very busy around the studio lately. Shipments to galleries, Holiday exhibitions.. commissions and new paintings for new venues requesting work… Keeps me on my toes!

This is one of the paintings that I’ve just started on shown here in it’s sepia stage. It’s a watercolor and should finish up as a 5×7.
This is one of the beautiful education birds that we had the chance to visit with in Seattle. He was gorgeous! …and so attentive.

On the way back from our trip to Wyoming, Montana, and Washington, after so much time traveling and away from my studio, I was getting an intense urge to paint something… Anything. (It’s a common phenomena when you’re addicted to art as badly as I am….) So, on the road, I pulled out my paints and brushes and began working on a collection of pieces.
These are two of those paintings with plenty of finishing touches added in the studio. The miniatures are both 5×7 watercolors. They will debut at the Seaside Art Gallery in the Outer Banks of North Carolina just in time for the Holiday Season. ….and I am very pleased to post that the gallery will now be representing our work, with this being the first installment. (In years past, my family and I have been a part of their International Miniatures Show as well.) If you are in the area, be sure to stop in!

Swamped a bit lately recovering from the trip and finishing up some deadlines..but finally a chance to make a post here…
For the final leg of our Western adventure, we quickly toured Washington State. …going to several wildlife facilities and visiting friends. Lots of beautiful things to paint and inspiration.

Near the Canadian border, we stopped in to see our friends who are missionaries to the First Nations, Jack and Carolyn…very sweet..spoiled us terribly.. Carolyn has been a family friend for as long as I can remember. (She’s also an artist. ) We had a wonderful tour of Whideby Island!
We took a trip with our friend Dee Dee (Wildlife/animal artist – www.deedeemurry.com / Blog –UPDATE, link now functioning… ) and spent a day seeing animals to paint.
It was a bit on the soggy side, but the Quinault Rainforest was beautiful. A stroll on the wooded trail makes you feel very small very quickly surrounded by such enormous trees. I was disturbed a bit to see large areas clear-cut for logging nearby on private/reservation lands. Farther up the peninsula, the cliffs (and haystack rocks) along the Pacific coast are gorgeous in that area as well. ..the sky cleared from the light rain we’d had to a foggy haze with the sun..seemed magical.
After crossing the sound, we toured through the North Cascades National Park and a stopped for a hike. The vegetation was so interesting..I had never seen so many mushrooms. It was sunny but snowing over the pass, so we had a quick (and crisp) look around there as well.
Finally, we made a stop at a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center to tour their facility and see their beautiful animals, coming away with a lot of beautiful references for new pieces.
It was a bit of a whirlwind tour, and wish I could have had time to see more, but so much fun! Now..back to the studio to catch up..

A great big “Thank You” to Galleries West in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for having a wonderful show/open house during the Jackson Fall Arts Festival! We had a lovely time…as always!

Finishing new works, framing, packing, shipping, etc… A bit of a rush around here, but it should be down to a dull roar soon. My family and I are preparing for our exhibits out West this month and just putting the finishing touches on new paintings for the shows. (I finished my last painting for the events about 1/2 hr ago.. )
This is a snapshot of the first collection of smaller paintings that were framed – 16″x20″ and smaller. I hope some of you can make it to the shows at Galleries West in Jackson Hole, WY and Moosehorn Gallery’s exhibit for my family and I in Livingston (Paradise Valley), MT. …would love to see you there!!
(If you aren’t able to make it in person, I plan to be posting some snapshots too. )
