Power Struggle – Painting by Candlelight

I have been having technical difficulties this week – each electrical storm that has gone through our area has blown out the power (and it’s remained out for a long time). So… I have been doing some painting by candle light….at least until my eyes get tired.

(Thankfully, my laptop has a large battery and a dialup connection, so I’m not completely cut off from the outside world… )

This is another painting that I am working on…still in progress…a Polar Bear. It’s a smaller miniature (…as you can see by the coin ).

I was really intrigued by the light and ambient feeling when I saw the subject and tried to bring that out in the painting.

This is the progress on the red fox kit commission painting that I am nearly finished with – I thought that I should show the progress. (There are a few more things that I am still fussing with, though…not quite completed…) .

This is another commissioned piece that I am working on (still in the sketch phase at the moment). This is the sketch/drawing for the painting – which will be watercolor on Ivorine. When it is finished, the piece will be a part of a museum’s collection of miniature portraits of the American Presidents. I was asked to paint George W. Bush, and my Mom, Karen, has been commissioned to paint President Bill Clinton.

I haven’t painted many human portraits recently, so this is a nice break from my usual work.

Hike in Black Canyon Wilderness

This was a hike into the Black Canyon Wilderness in the Tetons early one morning before we had to be back in Jackson at our gallery. I was surprised that it was more of a woodsy trail and not as much of a 'canyon', but gorgeous none the less. Several bubbling streams and an assortment of wildflowers were the highlight of the trail....
