I just received notice that the three paintings that I sent to the "16th International Miniature Art Show" at the Seaside Art Gallery in Nags Head, North Carolina were juried into the exhibition. The Outer Banks gallery was founded in 1961 (the barrier islands of North Carolina). A reception for the show will be held at the gallery on May 26th from 7-9pm.
The gallery posts the entire show online (and will remain online for a full year) – the only miniature show of this type that does this, that I am aware of. (artwork featured in the show is still being added – the online exhibit will be complete by May 4th) The show usually exhibits over 600 works of art by artists from around the world. The miniature show will run May 4, 2007 – June 02, 2007. Visit the the event online by following this link.
My Mom, Karen, and sister, Bonnie, also have paintings in the exhibition.
This painting is one of my new miniature pieces I made for the show that pre-sold before the exhibition opened – "A Little Unsteady – Whitetail Fawn". (My recent paintings "Ruby Throated Hummingbird" and "Marsh Evening – Snowy Egret" also found new homes during the pre-sale.)

For the most part, this piece was painted yesterday with a few touch ups this morning.

I have a few minor things to adjust on it, but this bull elk miniature is pretty much completed. The first post
about this piece is here with a basic wash underpainting.

This is how my Snowy Egret painting is looking right now. The painting is very subtle and has a lot of very soft color tones in it – unfortunately the richness of the color in the habitat and some of the accents in the egret are not showing up well in this scan. When I did the research and study for this this painting, the egret had very soft lighting, so the look of the painting is a little different than most of the pieces that I paint. It is still in progress. Here’s the
sketch for this piece.

This is a new painting that I’m working on. 13 turtles on a log and reflections of them in the water. This piece is pretty intricate, but I thought that I should challenge myself.

I saw these turtles in Oklahoma. They all were competing for space on the log to sun themselves in the warmth of the early afternoon sunlight – as you can see, some of them did not get the prime locations. I think that the title for this painting will be "Turtle Jam".
