Miniature Iris Painting

New miniature iris painting - This is a really small miniature painting that is just about done now. It's one of my Irises from our garden that should be coming up this spring. :D It is pretty small - due to the 1/6th rule. For those who aren't aware, There are a lot of miniature societies around the world that have exhibitions for miniature art and one of the rules for their miniature shows is to paint 1/6th lifesize or smaller. So, this little iris is under 1".

Little Bunny Miniature Progress…

Here is how my new little bunny miniature painting is going. :D Note that the colors here didn't turn out as well as they often do on my scans - for some reason it looks kind of heavy and seems to have taken the 'warm fuzzy' colors out of it. Hopefully the final one will be better. It is turning out to be quite a bit like the little bunny painting that I did last spring that was 8x10. I'm not completely happy with it yet, but it's getting there.

New Miniature Wolf Painting Complete

Rebecca Latham's new wolf watercolor miniature ~~ This is one of the paintings I finished up for the NatureWorks Show and Sale in Tulsa, Oklahoma this past weekend - a little wolf. The photo here is a little harsher than the real painting - but you get the idea. The sketch for this miniature is posted here. :D

My family and I are recovering from our weekend show (snow) adventure.  We drove into Iowa with our load of artwork as they were shutting all of the interstates down from the huge snowstorm - we hit a few white-out spots of the blizzard on the smaller roads and had to turn around a number of times. Eventually we just drove around Iowa. (Hmmm…  it sounds humorous now. :D )  Our usual 12 hour drive to Tulsa took 27 hours (only stopping for gas and food). We almost missed the preview patron night and did miss out on some of the earlier events, but the show this year was great.  NatureWorks moved the show to a new location this year with fantastic results.  Next year is planned for the same spot - we hope to see you there! :D (…and no blizzards next year!! ;) )

Happy to be back home - although the 78 degrees in Tulsa was nice ;) Rebecca Latham | Wildlife Artist

Exhausted

A photoshoot on a little less than 3 hours of sleep entitles you to a few breaks, right? ;)

Seeing Critters

A little stop to visit with some critters :) My favorite part of getting out to shows and events is being able to stop and study wildlife or habitats from the area and gather a lot of fresh reference for painting. This is a photo pf my dad being mugged by a couple of jays. ;)
