This is a graphite sketch/drawing for a new miniature painting I will be starting soon. It is a Queen butterfly. The species is similar to a monarch, but a darker russet color and not as defined with black markings. I will be sketching out an arrangement of flowers and a background to add to it as well. ![]()

Thank you.
I study butterflies often. In the summertime the butterflies that are native to Minnesota visit the gardens that are just outside my studio windows. I also visit butterfly houses to see them. This one is from a butterfly exhibit at the Minnesota Zoo.
I used this sketch for a painting – adding some wildflowers that I studied in Wyoming (Grand Teton National Park). The painting is posted here – http://www.lathamstudios.com/rebeccasblog/blog/2007/03/30/queen-butterfly-miniature-painting/

That's a pretty neat butterfly drawing you drew. I wish I could draw butterflies like that, I only draw anime people. What inspired you to draw butterflies in the first place?
