This is a small thumbnail sketch (made in graphite) for a new watercolor miniature I’m starting to work on today. Each blossom in the painting is 1 inch or smaller per the 1/6th scale rule for miniature paintings.
I may paint more of these if this piece goes well. My miniature paintings I’ve completed recently have exceeded my expectations in the speed of their progression. :) I love being able to paint them so quickly!!!

I just finished this miniature painting today.
The piece has been in my studio for a little while. I came up with a few new ideas for it while painting my last mute swan piece.
This is another painting that was researched a few years ago in Florida.

I’m nearly finished with my new mute swan painting — just a few little changes. :) I loved observing this swan one foggy morning a few years ago. Very inspirational!!
I think I will be sending this piece to one of our upcoming exhibitions.

I am starting a new mute swan painting today, so I’m including a small thumbnail sized sketch in today’s post.
The new painting will be about 7×9 inches, more of a miniature piece.

This is a detail photo of my newest print — the first of the edition!
It is a giclee on canvas of my recent painting "Snowy Perch - Snowy Owl" and is printed the same size as the original, 20×30 inches.

I’ve spent most of today painting on my Canadian Goose painting for Minnesota Ducks Unlimited — working on the abstract water patterns. I will get a fresh photo of it posted soon so everyone can see it’s progress.

The trees have finally begun to turn in our area. I have been out and about snapping a few photos of all of the autumn color.

This is a new painting I’m working on at the moment for Miller Galleries — a farm scene/red barn. It is a miniature piece measuring only about 1-3/4 x 2-3/4 inches.

I have been painting on a few of the requested waterfowl paintings I have in progress at the moment. They are coming along nicely. :) I have included a photograph of a detail portion of the wood duck piece.

I have been in need of some specific references for a new piece. I have been requested to paint a beaver painting. So…. today we were off before sunrise for a photoshoot in the woods for some beaver habitat .
(Of course, we did gather plenty of references for many other paintings at the same time.
— you can never really have "too much" reference for new work.
)
The shoot turned out very well, I thought. I have some very nice material to work from. (Thanks to everyone who helped me in locating their territory. :) I appreciate it!!!)
My Mom, Karen, and I also made an appearance at Borders Bookstore here in the metropolitan area for a book signing later in the day. (We are the co-illustrators of "V is for Viking" children’s alphabet book, published by Sleeping Bear Press)

This is a small (and quick
) rough color sketch I made not too long ago of a Greater Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. I just started a miniature painting from the sketch and other references I have on hand.

I’ve been going through reference to plan out some new paintings. I will be starting some of them in the next few weeks for some of my galleries (such as Galleries West’s "Little Jewels Miniatures Show" in Jackson Hole). I’ll be posting images of them as soon as I get going on them.

Here is the first miniature painting I started for Miller Galleries show (as posted on the 16th). It’s a floral of a potted geranium. The plant in it’s pot is just under 3" high. This piece is nearly finished also.

Here is the color painting of the stillife (the sketch for this piece is in the previous post). It is nearly finished right now. It has progressed fairly quickly.

I just started a new miniature piece this afternoon — one of the pieces I will be sending to Miller Galleries for their miniatures show. The painting is about 3×4 (inches). I didn’t snap a photo of the sketch earlier, so I’ll be posting a color phase image of it shortly.

Here is the photograph of the precast bronze sculpture I mentioned earlier (detail of the precast). I began covering the armature with clay this morning — most of the moose is now coated.
