Just had to paint this pup!

These wonderful little guys were so lively, they were hard to keep up with. The reference for this painting was taken when they finally stopped together long enough to get this great shot. It is so very special to be able to experience first hand these beautiful animals.

Splashes of light across the daisy petals and the black lacy wings of this swallowtail inspired me to paint this one. I tried to capture a moment in time as the butterfly fluttered from flower to flower.

The canvasback duck is considered to be the king of ducks to most duck hunters. As you can see, their regal disposition earns them this honor. Beautiful bird, gorgeous water – what a joy to paint!

A young wolf pup is an irresistible subject. Full of non-stop energy, they explore their world with excitement, missing nothing of their surroundings. Something catching his eye, he stops for a brief moment to check it out with a glance in it’s direction.

The large-flowering trillium is my favorite flower. Light dances across the petals and leaves creating a captivating design that leads the viewer’s eye throughout.

Here is the final painting. All that is left to do is the signature
.

Lots of changes made this time. Next will be the final details on each turtle and tweaks throughout the painting.

Latham Studios has been signed by Hadley House! Earlier this year we were approached by the company and now things have been finalized. We are excited to be able to share our images with an even larger audience!

Now I have darkened overall and added a bit of warm tones and the beginnings of water detail. At this stage, the lights are muted but will be brought out again as the painting progresses and the detail is further developed. The little swimming turtle has been lost for the moment. (I promise to bring him back!)
