What’s Miniature Painting?

The original meaning of the term miniature refers to technique and not size - it means to paint very detailed. Often it's called painting "in miniature" and it has been stated that a piece of art that is as large as a wall could be painted in miniature. My family and I paint in that style exclusively and have done extensive research as well as talking to quite a few experts about it. Here is a little more in depth information.

This is a beautiful little painting. I was shocked to see how small it is. You must have very good eyes! :) (and a steady hand!). How in the world did you get such tiny, fine lines in the whiskers, etc on a piece this small? Thanks for sharing. All your work is amazing!

    Hi JR,

Thank you! : ) I enjoy painting detail in my work. I was in a workshop once and tried some oil painting in a looser style. I kept trying to add more detail to it. What can I say; it’s hard to break old habits. : )
